Ameshya Williams-Holliday Makes History As The First HBCU Player To Be Drafted Into WNBA In 20 Years

Ameshya Williams-Holliday has led a remarkable start to her basketball career. Graduating from West Harrison Highschool in South Mississippi, she went on to play college ball at Mississippi State where she later transferred to Jackson State.

In three seasons at Jackson State, she helped lead the Tigers to a 48-3 SWAC record.

According to WLOX, Last week Williams-Holliday became the first Jackson State Tiger ever to be selected WNBA since 2002, the second Southwestern Athletic Conference player, and the sixth player from an HBCU selected in the history of the league.

Using the 25th overall pick on the 6′4″ center, Indiana Fever selected Williams-Holliday.

Williams-Holliday pins a message to those watching her journey and the news unfolding on television, “I’m grateful, I’m thankful, I just want to thank everybody that helped me through this journey, and that pushed me to keep going and never give up.”
